Village Education Trust Fund
Part of Beqa Adventure Divers' Fiji Shark Project involves a commitment to the traditional owners of Shark Reef to give back to the community. This is accomplished in various ways.
Each year, the villages of Galoa & Wainiyabia put forward a selection of school leavers for our yearly Divemaster Internship. Beqa Adventure Divers selects one candidiate from each of the villages and takes them from PADI Open Water Diver through the ranks up to PADI Divemaster.
Upon completion of the 1-year Internship, there is potential full-time employment at Beqa Adventure Divers or the interns are free to take their new skills to seek work in the diving industry elsewhere in Fiji.
In fact, Watisoni Veremalumu, one of the graduates from our 2005 Internship chose to accept full-time employment with us in January 2006; and we are very happy to have him as part of the team.
We have one intern with us for 2007, with another to be selected in the near future. Peni Nayacalevu, comes from Wainiyabia Village and has a background in marine engines and welding having studied these at the TPAF (Training Productivity Authority Fiji). Peni joined us in March '07 and has become a hit with our guests already.
