The Bull Shark Tagging Programme aims to better understand the behaviour and ecology of free-ranging bull sharks. What started with a pilot study in the Bahamas to test the feasibility of studying movement patterns and habitat use of bull sharks with state-of-the-art pop-up satellite archival tags is now a much broader project that has its main field site in Fiji.
Methods used to study presence and absence as well as movements in and around Shark Reef Marine Reserve include satellite tracking and acoustic monitoring. In addition to these indirect observation techniques, direct observations of bull sharks in their natural habitat give insight into the secret life of these fascinating top predators.
